Mr. Jim Seymour of Meridianville, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning while surrounded by his loving family.   He was 82.   Mr. Seymour was born in Conroe, Texas and then raised in Magnolia, Texas.  While he served in the United States Army Band for 9 years, he came to Huntsville and met his wife before leaving military service and beginning a 30 year career with Bellsouth.

Jim was a follower of Christ and was minister of music at Mastin Lake Road Church of God of Prophecy where he began a praise band with his children and nieces and nephews.  The band grew to twelve members and played until he was physically unable to attend church anymore.  He was a long-time member of Mastin Lake Church of God of Prophecy (now Huntsville City Church) and considered them his family.  He taught private music lessons for over 50 years and was a gifted pianist, guitarist, and trumpeter.

Mr. Seymour enjoyed substitute teaching at Hazel Green High School and Meridianville Middle School for over fifteen years and is known by current and former students for his kindness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Edna Tomkins Seymour; brothers-in-law, Lavon Gulley and Terry Edward Gentle and his sister-in-law, Rebekah Wilson.

Surviving family members include his wife of over 56 years, Brenda Seymour;  His daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & David Crump;  His daughter and son-in-law, Sonja & Stacy St.Clair;  His son and daughter-in-law, Rod & Jennifer Seymour;  His daughter, Anita Seymour.

His loving grandchildren include: Michael Crump, Matthew Crump, Allison (Blake) Neivel, Sydney St.Clair, Alexandria Seymour, Jordan (Madison Kuykendall) Seymour, Sarah (T.J. Finley) Snowden;  His great-grandchildren:  Eva Marie Seymour, Lauren Elizabeth Seymour and Cooper James Neivel. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Gulley and Shelia Gentle, and his brothers-in-law, Michael Roden and Arvel Wilson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11AM at Hazel Green Funeral Home with Pastor Blake Neivel, Pastor Mark Williams, and Bishop Harold St.Clair officiating.   The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.   Burial with military honors will follow and will be in Charity Cemetery.

Jim will be remembered for his laid back demeanor, his wittiness and great sense of humor – always enjoying a good joke or prank, and for his passion for encouraging young people.   He was the life of the party, always thoughtful, putting others above himself, and he dearly loved all his family and cherished spending time with them.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
