Jim Johnston, 67, of Huntsville Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday January 26, 2022. He was born in San Diego, California to Corinne Duran and Jim Johnston II. Jim graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1972. He worked at General Dynamics as a Packaging Specialist in San Diego California for 18 years. After moving to New Mexico, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratories for over 10 years; specializing in Packaging Engineering. As an Executive Director, Jim was an advocate for Castleman’s Disease raising awareness of the disease within the medical community. Jim partnered with FEMA during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina supporting the community and families. He collaborated with groups in Santa Fe and Huntsville in partnership with Parkinson’s Support Groups. Most recently, Jim was a strong campaigner for the health of his fellow parishioners. Joining the Knights of Columbus, Council 11672 he immediately volunteered as the Health Director, a previously unfilled position, and established programs to support grieving parishioners and those in search of information on rare diseases and cancer treatments. Jim was also the Council Advocate, an elected position. This position entrusted that Jim settle disputes between members and the council, validate procedures, and lookout for the wellbeing of the order. Cherishing his memory are his wife, Linda; daughters, Wendy, and Tanya and husband, Dan, and their daughter Jurnee; brother, Jerry and wife, Jeannie; niece, Jessica and husband, Brad, and their children, Josephine and Bradley Jr.; nephews, Justin, and Joshua and wife, Faith; brother, Jay; and niece, Cheyenne and her children Robert, Roman and Olivia. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 31 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 13550 Chaney Thompson Road, Huntsville AL 35803. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Knights of Columbus #11672 in care of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, or Huntsville Hospital Hospice at 10000 Serenity Lane, Huntsville, AL 35803.
