Dr. Jim F. Couch, 54, of Tuscumbia past from life into life everlasting on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the church. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00. Interment will follow in Tuscumbia Oakwood Cemetery. Bro. Barrett Long and Bro. Michael Eldridge will be officiating.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Tuscumbia, Alabama and was a graduate of Deshler High School class of 1977. He received his BS from the University of North Alabama, an MBA from the University of Alabama Huntsville and a PhD in economics from the University of Mississippi. He taught at the University of North Alabama for 22 years as a professor of economics. He was the founder of the Society of Business, Industry and Economics, published author and recipient of the College of Business Faculty Research Award for 2013.
Jim served on the Tuscumbia City Council, served on the Colbert County Tourism Board as well as the Helen Keller Property Board. He had a love for restoring homes, spending time on the lake, college football, and academic research.
Jim’s love of his life was his family. He was a loving husband and a devoted father to Reagan and JJ. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia and served as a Sunday school teacher as well as a deacon. Jim’s faith led him to be compassionate and giving. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people.
He is survived by his wife, Gina Couch; his daughters, Reagan Couch and JJ Couch; his mother, Elizabeth Couch and his brother, David Couch. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. James J. Couch.
Pall bearers will be Drew Aldridge, Philip Burton, Don Herring, Keith Malone, Bill Wells, Al Williams. Honorary Pall Bearers are his Deshler classmates and his University of North Alabama colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Christian School.
