Jewell F. Smith, 91, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on August 19, 2024. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death in 1989 by her husband, Andrew F. Smith, Jr.

She will be greatly missed by her family whom she loved deeply, including daughters, Sandra Smith Collier (Bob) and Mary Ann Smith Hendley (Kevin); granddaughters, Anna Collier Wysock (Brian) and Mary Grace Hendley; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Andrew Wysock and Caroline Elizabeth Wysock.

Mrs. Smith was born in 1933 in Lincoln County, Tennessee, and was raised on a farm by her devoted parents, Elmer and Alma B. Fleming. She shared a wonderful life with her three siblings, Mary Christine F. Campbell, Jo Anna Fleming, and J.W. Fleming (all deceased).

She was a devoted Christian and was actively involved at University Baptist Church (now Church on the Hill) for 65 years and enjoyed serving and worshiping there with many dear friends and neighbors.

She graduated as Valedictorian from Blanche High School and enjoyed a long and successful career in the field of banking at Henderson National Bank (1953-1993) and at State Bank of Decatur and Secor Bank.

After retirement in March of 1993, she traveled for twelve years with the UBC Seniors and served 23 years as a volunteer with the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary working in the gift shop.

Mrs. Smith was an excellent homemaker and cook and loved gardening, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables which she generously shard with family and neighbors.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Bobby Burt officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.

Flowers will be accepted as Mrs. Smith loved flowers, or memorials may be made to Church on the Hill, 809 Jordan Lane, Huntsville, AL, or a charity of your choice.
