Mrs. Jewell Ann Hammonds Gordon was born in Madison, Alabama, on June 9, 1940, to the late Ferdinand Hammonds, Sr. and Anna Eugene Jones Hammonds. She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 6:52 p.m.
She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and united with the membership of St. Peter United Methodist Church. She later became a member of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was a graduate of Councill Training High School, Class of 1959.
Jewell was united in Holy Matrimony on December 22, 1962, to John Nora Gordon. To this union, two children were born: Anthony Ricardo “Rick” and John Stanley “Stan.” She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nora Gordon and son, John Stanley Gordon.
Mrs. Gordon was a retiree of the State of Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, where she served as an Administrative Assistant. Jewell was an excellent seamstress, often making garments as well as performing various alterations for family and friends.
She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She, along with her husband, strived to make a good living for them and reared them in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
Precious memories of Jewell will live forever in the hearts of her loving and devoted son, Rick Gordon, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members.
Funeral service for Mrs. Jewell Hammonds Gordon will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at New Hope CPCA (28520 SW Wall St, Huntsville, AL 35756) with Rev. Burgess Ewing officiant and Rev. Ernestine Gordon as eulogist.
Interment will be in Faith Memorial Cemetery (8100 Madison Blvd, Madison, AL 35758).
Mrs. Gordon will lie in state prior to the service.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2025, and from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at Royal Funeral Home (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW, Huntsville, AL 35810).
