Jewel Samantha Mathis Whitlatch, 90, secretary for Mt. Pleasant Schools, died Sunday, September 5, 2021 at her residence in Columbia.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born August 13, 1931 in Stewart County, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Jefferson Mathis and the late Ruby Ester Hall Mathis. On June 4, 1953, she married William Leon Whitlatch who preceded her in death December 3, 2019. Mrs. Whitlatch was a member of Graymere Church of Christ.
Survivors include her son, William Leon (Stephanie) Whitlatch, Jr. of Prosper, Texas; sisters, Ruby Mathis of Columbia; Dorcas (Lewis) Faulkner of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, William Leon Whitlatch, III of Bristol; Alexia Dawn Bolton of Mt. Pleasant; Brandon Miles Whitlatch of Aubrey, Texas; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnnie Mathis.
