Jessie Mae Wood, 91, died Monday, February 16, 2015, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Johns Creek, Georgia, after a short illness. She was born December 9, 1923, in Jericho to Lillie Bishop and William Burton Duncan. On July 24, 1944, she married Paul Ray Wood. They were married 61 years. She was employed by Reed’s Manufacturing for over 30 years. She and Mr. Wood attended Lee Acres Church of Christ. Mrs. Wood had many hobbies. She loved sewing, especially for her three granddaughters. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting and tending to her flowers. While at Sunrise, she was active in Bible study and church. She was an avid bingo player.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Verona with Bro. Jerry Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Gary Wood and wife, Pam, of Johns Creek, Ga.; three granddaughters, Stephanie W. Henry and husband, Tim, of Huntsville, Ala., Jennifer W. Nelson and husband, Trey, of Birmingham, Ala., and Catherine Wood of Birmingham, Ala.; three great-grandsons, Drew Nelson, Alex Nelson and Carter Nelson, all of Birmingham, Ala.; one niece, Jackie Bell of Baldwyn; and one nephew, Roger Davis of Tupelo.She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Paula Wood Wilson; one brother, William Mark Duncan and one sister, Sybil D. Davis.
Pallbearers will be Greg Davis, Ronnie Bell, Trey Nelson, Tim Henry, Myrl Carlock and Greg Evans. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sanctuary Hospice House.
