Jessie Jones, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on July 10, 2024. He was born in Franklin County, Alabama on January 17, 1933. In 1959 Jessie and his family moved to Zion, Illinois where he worked as a warehouse supervisor at National Gypsum for 24 years and a store room clerk for R. Lavin another 20 years. In 2001, after retirement, “Junior” returned “home” to Hodges, Alabama where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching Alabama football, and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of Hodges Convention Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Jessie was a long-term member of the Freemasonry in both Illinois and Alabama. He was also a member of The Alabama Society Chapter of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. His favorite responsibilities as a member of the American Legion, was helping raise the flag for Red Bay home football games.

One of Jessie’s life’s highlights was participating in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flights honoring WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans. This trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials and experience a day of honor and thanks was made even more special; being able to share this event with his son serving as his guardian.

We remember the love Jessie felt for his family and are eternally grateful for his 91 years of life. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
