Jesse Luzerne Wheeler, 87, of Fulton, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born September 18, 1927 to the late Gaston Luzerne Wheeler and Jessie Jetton Wheeler. He was a graduate of Tremont High School, I.J.C.’s first class, and Mississippi State University. He was a retired teacher serving as Principal of Houston Jr. high, teaching Biology and Chemistry. He taught Vocational Agriculture at Pelahatchie and Hamilton and Vocational Education at Itawamba Agricultural High School. He also worked 13 years as a banker for Bank of Mississippi. Luzerne enlisted in the Army in 1948 at age 18, and served in the 8th Army Occupational Service in Japan. He served as Company Clerk, Mail Clerk, and Supply Sargent. He was a member of York and Scottish Rite Mason. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Luzerne was a proud member of the Fulton United Methodist Church where he served as President of Methodist Men, Sunday School teacher, Trustee, Finance, Evangelism Committee, and Helping Hands. He was Co-founder of the F.U.M.C. Food Pantry.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Monday October 6, 2014 at Fulton United Methodist Church with Bro. Phillip Box, Bro. Glyn Wiygul, Bro. Doyle Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Itawamba Memorial Gardens. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Wheeler of Fulton; Sons: Dr. Ronald Wheeler and Rick (Leslie) Wheeler both of Fulton, Grandsons: Matt Wheeler of Tupelo, Austin Wheeler of Oxford, and Chris Hughes of Oxford; Granddaughters: Lindsay (Jonathan) King of Tupelo, Ashley (J.T.) Pullen of Collierville, TN, and Anna Catherine (Will) Hodges of Fort Worth, TX; and several Nieces and Nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Vicki Ann Wheeler
Pallbearers are James Neaves, James Brown, Marshall Sage, Tommy Poole, Wayne Parks, and Harvey Clements
Honarary Pallbearers will be the Masons and his Sunday School Class
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday October 5, 2014 at Senter Funeral Home
