Jesse Harold Thomas age 75 passed away Sunday evening, September 25, 2016 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born July 20, 1941 in Chester County in the Montezuma Community, the son of the late Jesse Leo and Flois Smith Thomas. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1960 and in 1961 married Carolyn Lott. They made their home in the Montezuma Community. He worked at Salant & Salant Mfg. until 1970 when he was elected Chester County Court Clerk. He served twelve years as County Court Clerk.
He owned and operated Thomas & Webb Bar-B- Que and later Thomas Bar-B-Que until 1998.
He and his son Doug built and sold houses. He also farmed and raised cattle.
He and his wife Carolyn helped organize, the Chester County Fair Board and served on the Board for several years. He was a member of the Jacks Creek Ruritan Club and had served on the Chester County Democratic Executive Committee. He was a supporter of the West Chester PTA when Doug was in school.
Mr. Thomas is survived by a son, Doug Thomas and wife Sonia of Henderson and three grandchildren, Cameron Thomas, Kaitlyn Thomas and Kyle Thomas and two great grandchildren, Reagan Thomas and Easton Thomas; a brother, Lewis Thomas of Henderson and a sister, Nancy Rush of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carolyn Lott Thomas, September 22, 2015, a brother, Jackie Thomas and two sisters, Martha Ann Thomas and Faye Scarbrough.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Bro. Charlie Crouthers and Bro. Brad Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
