Jess Harold Joseph Jones, 85, passed away Wednesday January 27, 2021. Jess was born in Melville, LA on March 30, 1935. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he served in the US Army for three years. He worked for NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center for thirty-five years and retired in 1995. Following retirement, he worked part-time for AI Signal Research.
Jess was a perpetual adoration adorer at Holy Spirit Catholic Chapel for 33 years and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lessie Kenney Jones; daughter, Yvonne Jones Butler (Robert) of Huntsville; sons, Gregory Tolson Jones (Jeanne) of Meridianville, Douglas Clement Jones and Matthew Joseph Jones of Huntsville; grandchildren, Zachary Tolson Jones (Aimee) of Nashville, TN, Warren Woodruff Butler and Emma Marie Butler of Huntsville; brother, Gene Nelson Jones of Melville, LA; and sister, Joan Mae Michaels (Gary) of Cedar Hill, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, George Tolson Jones, Sr., his mother, Lorina Mary Loumiet Jones, sisters, Lorraine Marie Fairchild (Amos) of Kuttabul, Queensland, Australia and Rita Mae Legler (George) of Pittsburg, PA, a brother, George Tolson Jones, Jr. (Catherine) of Baton Rouge, LA and sister-in-law, Elda Jones of Melville LA.
Visitation will be held on Saturday January 30 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Huntsville, AL with the Rite of Christian Burial beginning at 11 a.m. and officiated by Father Joy Nellissery. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers make donations to St. Mary of the Visitation Building Fund.
