Mr. Jerry Williams of the Oleander community of Union Grove, Alabama passed away at his residence on Monday, July 1, 2024. Jerry was 86 years old. He was born in Marshall County, Alabama on October 18, 1937 to John Henry Williams, Sr. and Ruby Clementine Barnard Williams. He and Judith “Judy” Ann May Williams have been married for over 60 years.
Jerry was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. After his military commitment ended Jerry returned home to continue his work for the army at Redstone Arsenal as an accountant. Jerry followed scripture and strived to be a good and faithful servant. As a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and, using his accounting background, as the church treasurer for many years. He was a man with many talents and interest, the main interest was family. He enjoyed creating a massive Christmas display in his front yard for his grandchildren (and the entire community) to enjoy. He loved taking long walks with MawMaw, gardening, and bird watching. In leisure time he could be found watching Atlanta Braves baseball, Big Brother, reading biographical books and working word puzzles. When his health began to decline and he had to spend more time indoors, he enjoyed chatting and reminiscing with old friends and relatives.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy Williams; sons, Jerry Anthony “Tony” Williams and Jeffery Scott “Jeff” Williams; grandchildren, Caroline Faith Hubbard, Anna Elizabeth Williams, Rachel Grace Williams, and Allison Nicole Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Williams; brothers, John H. Williams, Jr., Charles Williams, and Patrick Claydeen Williams; sisters, Modane Daugette and Ruby Jo Williams.
Services for Jerry will be on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City. The family will welcome extended family, friends and guest to the visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and last until the funeral service starts at 11:00 a.m. Brother Keith Williams and Brother Bryan C. Mosley will be officiating. Serving as pallbearers and escorting Jerry to his final resting place in Mount Olive Church Cemetery will be: Shaun Williams, Jonathan Williams, David Feemster, Dave Brand, Jacob Hubbard and Reagan Saylor.
