Jerry Wayne Whisenant, 64, of Hazel Green, passed away on Sunday.

He was an alumnus of Walnut Grove School and a 1975 graduate of Hazel Green High School.  He was a gifted builder and owned and operated his own home-building company along with his friend and business partner, B.H. Jenkins.   Jerry was then employed by the Madison County School system until his retirement in 2019.  After his retirement, he was part of the staff of Hazel Green Funeral Home where he helped with services, built, remodeled, and repaired anything needed. He remodeled the funeral home facility and was essential in developing and building the Cremation Center on the funeral home property.  He enjoyed raising catfish, gardening, riding his Harley, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd Young Whisenant, Ruby Elizabeth Whisenant, and Juanita Moore Whisenant McDow, by his sister-in-law, Kathy Whisenant, by his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence Young Whisenant & Connie Whisenant, and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Perry & Bertha Wells.

Surviving family members include his wife of 45 years, Lovell Wells Whisenant;  His son and daughter-in-law, Craig & Laura Whisenant;  His daughter and son-in-law, Jenna & Jeff Cowart;  His son and daughter-in-law, Jerod & Bridgett Whisenant;   His son, Devon Whisenant; His grandsons, Jake House, Jarrett Fanning and Zeke Whisenant;  His granddaughters, Jessa Fanning, Kylee Whisenant, and Kara Whisenant; His brother, William Whisenant;  His sister, Rebecca Brandon;  His step-father, Jerry McDow; His sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roberta & Curtis Pendergrass;  His brother-in-law, Terrell Wells; His aunts, Eva Louise Sisk and Dorothy Sims Tully; He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4 until 6:30pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 6:30pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Elmer “Buddy” Alverson and the Rev. Eddie Lones officiating.   A sunset burial will follow at Bevill’s Cemetery.
