Jerry Phillip Thorn, age 75 of Lynn, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville.
He was born January 29, 1948, in Decatur, to Lester and Lawrencie Mae Thorn. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1976, then the National Guard from 1989 to 2004. He was a police officer for the town of Double Springs and a deputy for Winston County over 25 years. Jerry attended Lynn Church of God. He was an avid hunter and loved being outdoors.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at Addison Church of God. Pastor Chris Stokes will officiate.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 26 years, Patricia Thorn; daughter, Michelle (Tony) Ward; son, Michael Thorn; grandchildren, Derek (Cheyenne) Jones, Ethan Jones, Clay (Kasandra) Ward, Seth (Taylor) Ward, Michaela (Alex) Patterson, and Kaitlyn Thorn; great grandchildren, Chasen Jones, Ethan and Emberly Ward, Aaliyah Ward, and Walker Patterson; husband in law, Don (Sandra) Wright; mother in law, Margie Elrod; sister in law, Belinda Turner (Chris); Shine, his faithful dog; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lawrencie Mae Thorn; father, Lester Thorn; and sisters, Mary Lou Boyce and Bernice Parker.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials be made to the Lynn Church of God in Jerry’s honor.
