Jerry Madison Owens, age 83, was born on January 6, 1940, and passed away on October 19, 2023.

Jerry Madison Owens was first and foremost a devoted husband to the love of his life of 43 years, Janie Rose Owens.  Their relationship was a model to us all, an example of a lifetime of love and respect.  Jerry once said, “The greatest thing a man can give his children is to love their mother,” and that he did.

His easy-going demeanor, unique sense of humor, kind heart, and unconditional love will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know him as “The Big O”.

He was a native of Lawrence County and a 1958 graduate of LCHS and attended Florence State Teachers College (UNA), he also attended OK Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Crossroads of Dixie Antique Tractor Club.

Jerry served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and retired from The United Parcel Service as center manager and raised beef cattle.

He loved fishing and fished some of the best waters in Tennessee and Alabama at the early age of 12 years old.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Lorene Southard Owens and Thomas Owens; and his loving wife, Janie Rose Owens.

He is survived by his son, Scott Madison Owens (Amie), and daughter, Valerie Jill McLain (Michael), along with his five grandchildren, Kate Owens, Ella McLain, Andy McLain, Emily Owens, and Jase Owens.
