Jerry L. Garmany  Jerry LaDaire Garmany, 70, of Rainsville, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024. He was born September 15, 1953 to the late Ivery Ellison Garmany and Pearl Leo Bryson Garmany. Jerry was a 1973 graduate of the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega. After high school he attended Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C. While attending college he was offered a federal job and thus began his 35-year career with the United States Government. He retired from the National Institute of Health as a GS level 13. Jerry loved life, people, and was an avid collector of art. He never allowed his deafness to be a disability, but rather an ability.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Adamsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m.

He is survived by his sisters Phyllis Gant and husband Zack, Bonnie Bassett, and Shirley Pitts; a host of nieces and nephews; and chosen family and neighbors Ricky and Jackie Westbrook.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jewel Crane, Bernice Smith, David Garmany, Verlon Garmany, Carolyn Zavala, and Faye Berry.

Special appreciation is extended to the Enhabit Hospice, the staff of DeKalb Regional Medical Center, and his caregivers Debra Ellis, Lisa Garmany, Susan Dobbs, Sicily Mitchell, and Nick Guffey, and his very special sister Phyllis.

Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of arrangements.
