Jerry Glenn Burgess, 83, of Southside, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 9th, 2022. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2021 at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bud Swindall and Bro. Lauil Thompson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside. Jerry is survived by her husband of 63 years, Randall C. Burgess, and her children: Keith Burgess, Kelli Burgess, and Kristi Burgess Cavaliere. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. Jerry was a graduate of Jacksonville State University where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Minored in Geography. Additionally, she received her Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership from University of Alabama. Jerry retired from a 30-year career with the Federal Government, with last few years at Ft. Lee Virginia where she oversaw the building and curating of the new US Army Women’s Museum. Because of her distinguished service and her untiring support of the mission of the Quartermaster Corps, she was inducted as an alumnus of the Office of the Quartermaster General. Jerry was an accomplished artist receiving multiple awards and recognition for her work. Some of her most recent artwork is prominently displayed on the wall murals of the exhibition gallery at the US Army Women’s Museum.
