Jerry Gilbert Vess  Jerry Gilbert Vess, age 65, passed away suddenly after an extended illness on Tuesday, July 09, 2024.

Jerry was born on September 23, 1958 at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield to Thomas F. Vess and Mildred Pauline (Murphy) Vess.  He attended Muscle Shoals High School, where he was a trombone player in the marching band before his graduation in 1976.  He was a lifetime lover of all thing’s music and Alabama Football.  He also enjoyed spending his free time fishing and hunting before his health prevented him from it.  He met and married his best friend and the love of his life, Pamela, in 1977.

Jerry worked for many years at Martin Industries, including several as a supervisor.  He loved the Lord, and he volunteered as a Sunday School van driver for years at South Highland FWB Church.   While his health had been failing for a long time, he never lost his quick wit and love for his family.

The time of visitation will be 10:00- 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Spry Memorial Chapel.  The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Harlon Hallmark officiating the service.  The burial will be at Hopewell Church of Christ.

The pallbearers will be Howell Gargis, Jerry Aycock, Jacob Aycock, Jaime Soto, and Bob Olson. The honorary pallbearers will be Ray Vess and Mickey Vess.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Franklin Vess; his mother, Mildred Pauline (Murphy) Vess; his brother, Dalton Campbell; sisters, Gail Vess O’Bryant and Shirley Campbell Sisk.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Pamela Gargis Vess; his children, Laura, Megan, and Jeremy; special extended family members, Roger and Ashley Cochran; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Allison, Colton, and Lonnie Cochran; his brother, Benney Vess (Joyce); his “Sissy” sister, Brenda Campbell Long; as well as several nieces and nephew.

The family wishes to thank; Dr. Kevin Kelly and his staff, Dr. Lloyd Dyas and his staff, Dr. Jeffrey Manord and his staff, the wound care team at Russellville Hospital; Center Well Home Health and special nurses, Angie and Michelle; Northwest Home Health and special nurses, Mindy and Tammy; as well as all the doctors and specialists who helped keep him going the last few years.

Spry Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
