Jerry Gene Zills, 87, of Florence and Russellville, died Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Burns Nursing Home in Russellville after an extended illness. A former member of North Highlands Church of Christ in Russellville and a current member of Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence, Mr. Zills was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and from the Alabama National Guard. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Granville Zills and Eva Mae Dunn Zills; brothers, Clyde Durward Zills (Blanche) and Luther Ford Zills; sister, Eva Jeanette Zills Hutchins (Grover) and half-sister, Lula Mae Zills Walters (Pat); and first wife, Peggy Ann Malone Zills.
Survivors include his wife, Renea Sparks Zills; daughter, Cheri McCain (Greg); son, Terry Zills (Tasha); stepson, Gavin McGee; grandchildren, Emma Anne Hallman, Tanner Zills, Anne Tyler Zills, Blakely McGee, and Channing McGee; great-grandchildren, Parker Hallman and Ella Ruth Hallman; and a host of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, from 11:00 until 12:30 on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, with service at 1 p.m. at Franklin Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Russellville.
