Jeanne L. Hightower was born on January 5, 1934 to parents L.G. and Mattie Logue in Chapel Hill, TN. In June of 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, James Hightower, and went on to have four children after relocating from Fort Knox, KY where they were stationed for Jim’s military career.
Jeanne was an ordained Deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School to both youth and adults. Her first love was always women of the church, where she served as an officer on both the local and Presbytery levels. She loved her volunteer time at Huntsville Hospital and serving her community through various church ministry outreach programs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Janice Hammonds and David Keith Hightower, as well as her husband, Jim. Jeanne is survived by two sons, James O. III (Terri) of Athens and Richard Alan of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Jennifer Fischer (Seth) of Knoxville, TN, David R. Hammonds of Huntsville, Christopher Hightower (Gabriel) Seattle WA, and Clayton Hightower, Birmingham, AL, Skye Moore of Athens and Leslee Gaston of Athens; four great-grandsons, Noah, Adam, Samuel and Luke Fischer, all of Knoxville, TN; and one great-granddaughter, Kora Blair Moore of Athens.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7th at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Lovell officiating.
