Jeanelle Grantham Templeton, 99, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 6, 2023. Mrs. Templeton was born on June 11, 1924 to Bryant “Mack” and Beulah Grantham in Jones County, MS. She served in the SPARS, a women’s branch of the US Coast Guard Reserve in WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1945. She was married to the love of her life, Aven Sylvester Templeton on February 19, 1945, and the 2 of them made Starkville, MS their home. She worked in the Telecommunications Department at Mississippi State University for 22 years.
Jeanelle found fulfillment in this life first and foremost in her relationship with Christ who she declared as Lord of her life early on. Aside from her faith, nothing brought her greater joy than raising her two girls alongside her husband and making their house a home full of love and peace. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, and her legacy will live on in those she leaves behind.
Mrs. Templeton is survived by her daughters, Sherry McCool (Shannon), and Vickie Spengler (Steve) as well as her grandchildren, Kelly (Brian), Scott, Shellye (Hunter), and Anna Grace (Carter), and six great-grandchildren who all lovingly referred to her as “Mama Nell”.
She will be remembered for her love and dedication, finishing her race strong. Mrs. Templeton has now reached her heavenly home where her Savior greeted her, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Christine Tipton, Donna Coyne, Marie Jackson, Beth Tarleton, and Thelma Pate. All who cared for her diligently and treated her as one of their own.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Aldersgate First United Methodist Church in Starkville.
