dorothyJean Sargent born in Smyrna, Tennessee on July 2nd passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 following a brief illness.

Jean graduated from Smyrna High School at which time she married Jim Sargent and promptly moved to Atlanta, GA. After Jim received his pilot license, Jean followed him to GA, NC, TX, and New Orleans, LA before finally settling in Florence, AL for the last 50 years. While Jim was still flying, Jean raised four children and ran Sargent Company. Jean also served two terms as an NKCA board of director and won multiple awards. During her life Jean was active in all four children’s lives anywhere from homeroom mother to fortune teller for second grade fall festival. Jean was a member of the Baptist church.

She was admired by many people. Her charisma, humor, charm, and southern hospitality made her one of a kind! She always made the person who interacted with her feel like they were a family member of her own. She truly made the world around her a better place by making others laugh and simply being there for anyone who needed to feel loved. Everyday there was someone who came to her job or house to sit and have a conversation with her for hours. It didn’t matter who she was talking to, they always had a smile on their face. She traveled with the family business and touched the hearts of people everywhere. She loved her grandkids dearly. Jean Sargent was a wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many people in her life but she was one thing to everyone, an angel who made everyone feel loved and accepted. Her positive energy was an example of making the world a better place, but her happy spirit will live in our hearts forever.
