Jean James passed away June 2, 2024. During her 92 years she was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be sorely missed by all.
She was born Jean McCrary on March 8, 1932. In 1950, after graduating from Joe Bradley High School, she joined an up-and-coming concern at Redstone Arsenal: NASA. She became a valued member of the Dr. Werhner Von Braun support staff that helped put the first man on the moon. She retired from NASA in 1994.
Jean was married to Jack James for 64 years. They had three children, Charlotte (Gary Nachajko), Robert Eric (Janet), and Debra MacGregor (Mark); as well as three grandchildren, Hunter, Shane, and Charlotte MacGregor. Survivors also include one brother, Kenneth McCrary; sister, Linda Wilbanks; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was an avid bowler and tennis player and was a member of several leagues, and she enjoyed international travel. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Huntsville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
