Jean Delores Futrell – Obituary

jeanJean Delores Futrell, of Florence, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016.

Jean was born in Wheeler, Alabama on August 12, 1930. She lived on the Wheeler Plantation, which her father managed for Miss Annie Wheeler, until the age of fourteen.
Her parents bought a farm and moved to Moulton, Alabama and Jean graduated from Lawrence County High School where she was head cheerleader.

She graduated from Larimore Business College in Florence and worked for Union Carbide as supervisor of the stenography department for fifteen years. She met the love of her life, Sam, and they married in June 1951. She left her work there to become a homemaker. She later returned to work for the City of Florence as a secretary for the Parks and Recreation Department for another fifteen years before retiring.

Jean was a loving, caring person who always tried to help others.

The visitation will be at Elkins Funeral Home on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. The funeral will follow in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Entombment will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Jean is survived by her husband Samuel C. “Boots” Futrell; sons S. Mark Futrell, Jeffrey K. Futrell and wife Tracy, and Brad Parker Futrell, all of Florence; grandchildren Will and Coby Elizabeth Futrell; brothers Dan Parker and wife Danny of Muscle Shoals, Stan Parker and wife Betty of Decatur, and Carl and Kay Parker of Florence; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be George, David and Al Futrell, Victor Cox, Dwight Parker, Bill Phillips and Larry Monk. Johnny Lawson and Bobby Irons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Jean with a memorial to your favorite charity.
