Jean Bullington passed away in her home on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, surrounded by her children. She was 97 years old. Jean was better known as “Miss Jean” by her children’s friends and as “DeeDee” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and their friends. These were names filled with love as all who used them loved her and knew that she loved them in return.
Graveside services for Jean with the family members will be held Saturday, January 30th, at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Brother Jim Black conducting the service. Due to the current Covid situation, there will be no visitation prior to the services.
Jean’s belief in God and her Savior Jesus Christ was her primary anchor on this earth. Her devotion to and love for her family came next. She instilled a sense of love for all and taught us right from wrong and helped us understand the hope that believing gave us, and because of her teachings we and many more have been blessed with these things she taught us. She was much more concerned for others than for herself. Jean did good for so many in taking meals, visiting the sick, and volunteering to help with anything she could for those in need. She was always there for everyone when and if you needed her, she was just a phone call away. She has now been invited to her next family reunion and this one’s in heaven, (Oh how she loved our family reunions and getting to visit with family). and now she is at a family reunion that will last forever. There are so many there that she will be happy to see: her
beloved husband of 61 years, Tom Bullington; her daughter, Tulah whom she lost 19 years ago and her daughter Lisa whom she lost 1 year ago.
Jean was born on July 18, 1923, in Commerce, GA to Tullulah Aiken Black and Eddie Black. After graduating from high school, she entered Auburn University from which she graduated and also where she met her future husband and the love of her life, Dr. Thomas H. Bullington. They married right before World War II, and after arriving back home after the war, they eventually had 6 children. Jean was a long-time and faithful member of the Washington Street Church of Christ. She loved that church and all of the members who attended there over the years with all of her heart. We love you, Mother, our Princess and the Pea, and we always will. Thank you for your guidance, your protection, your teachings, your understanding, your faithfulness, your love and the wisdom you imparted to us that made us grow into the children you so wanted us to be. Without you, we would be nothing.
Survivors include her children, Dinah Bullington Richardson of Fayetteville, Betty Bullington Brown of Carmel, IN, Tommy Bullington of AL; and Amy Bullington Cooper of Panama City Beach, FL; grandchildren, John Richardson (Heidi), Paul Richardson (Jana), Wendy Broughton (Matt), Jason Brown (Lauren), Susanna Falkmann (Nathan), Lauren Harney (Adam), Haileigh Schaffner, Casey Parker (Robbie), and Katie Cooper; great-grandchildren, Holt, Amelia Kate, Ben, Allie, Jax, Lucy, Annie, Will, Wyatt, Avery, Sawyer, Harper, Layla, Gwen, Noell, Brooks, Vayda, Shelby, and Ryder. In addition to her mother, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Thomas Bullington; and daughters, Tulah Bullington Tidwell and Lisa Bullington Schaffner.
