Ms. Settlemires was born August 29, 1929, in Prentiss County, the daughter of the late Dudley Elbert and Hattie Ozella Horton Perrigo. She was a 1947 graduate of Pisgah High School and was employed with local manufacturing companies that included Foot Caress and Genesco. A Christian, Ms. Settlemires was known as a “grandmother” to everyone and had an unconditional love for her family. She enjoyed the “simple things” in life, root beer floats, ice-cream, watching birds (especially her hummingbirds), reading, talking on the phone and eating dessert first. She overcame adversity to live her life with meaning and mindfulness that few of us are able to achieve. A “people person”, Ms. Settlemires cared deeply about those around her and interacted with her kindness, sweet spirit and love.
