It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Janice Newby Turner, which occurred on March 28, 2025 at the Limestone Health Facility. She was born on July 5, 1935 in Athens, Alabama to Herbert Newby and Oma Sanderson Newby. She is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Charles Turner, and 5 brothers; Pryor Newby, Milton Newby, Virgil Newby, Harold Newby, and Rowe Martin Newby.
Survivors include: two sisters, Vera Haley of Decatur and Joyce James; her children and their spouses, Karen Turner Gilbert (John Gilbert), Keith Turner (Cathy Turner), one grandchild Alisa Courtney Seeley (Michael Seeley), and several nephews and nieces.
Janice was a homemaker and loved caring for her house, flowers, and family. She lived most of her life in Limestone county, about a mile from her childhood home. She met her future husband when she attended the Florence State Teacher’s College (University of North Alabama). Janice was a dedicated mother and wife; devoting all her time and effort to make the family healthy and happy. She enjoyed cross-stitch and long drives in the country with her husband and close friends. As a mother, she was at every baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, choir, band, wedding, and graduation event supporting her children and grandchild.
Visitation will be held at McConnell Funeral Home Tuesday, April 1, 2025 from 12-12:45 PM. A graveside service will be held in her honor at Roselawn Cemetery at 1pm.
