Janet Smith On Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, Janet Smith passed away into Heaven. Janet was born November 6, 1932 in Aspen Hill, Tennessee to her parents Urban Hanna Smith and Nelle Jones Smith. Janet and her parents lived in Memphis while her father taught school then they moved back to Aspen Hill, TN where she attended 4th grade to 8th grade.
Janet graduated from Giles County High School where she played clarinet in the Band. She then went to Martin College for two years and finished her degree at MTSU. She got a job through the State of Tennessee as a Librarian and got a promotion to work in a Regional Bookmobile in the 9th district. Janet was also instrumental in setting up Libraries in several small communities in her region.

She retired after 45 years of working for the State in 1971 at the age of 65 to have more time with her aging mother and father, Nelle and Urban Smith. After her father passed away, Nelle and Janet moved from Aspen Hill to Pulaski, Tennessee. After the passing of her mother, Janet continued to live in Pulaski.

She was an active member of the Aspen Hill United Methodist Church for many years, as well as the DAR and the Giles County Historical Society. She helped her mother with Family genealogy for years. Janet’s mother taught her to knit and sew when she was a little girl and she is known for her Water color paintings. Janet also loved to shop for clothes and buy jewelry to match each outfit.

After many years of falls and failing health, she went to NHC after rehab and in October of 2023 she began life that she loved at Ivy Crest Assisted Living with her caring sitters and friends that she made there.

Janet leaves behind many cousins: Elizabeth (Bob) Morgan, Debbie (Reddick) Scott, Casey (Bonnie) Jones, Emily Jones Young and daughter Ivy, Teri Jones Mize, Jennifer (Scott) Lloyd, Carol Harris Wilson, Bobby Lee (Connie) Harris, Maggie (Leigh) Masimore, Nita (Bob) Ramsey, Bill (Linda) Beasley and all the Beasley family, Morgan family, Scott family, Smith family and the Jones family.

There will be a visitation from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, September 9th, 2024, at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm Monday, September 9th, 2024, in the chapel of Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home.
The burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, TN.

Honorary Pallbearers:
Betty Womble, Beth Kincaid, Beth Stockwell, Rita Jones, Rhonda Hillis, Phyllis Petty, special friend Vince Anderson, along with all members of the Aspen Hill United Methodist Church. Her cousins, Marie and everyone at Ivy Crest Assisted Living and all who took such good care of her and showed her the love of Jesus also survive.

Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements for Janet Smith.
