Janet “Jan” Marie Smith, aged 74, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024. Born on November 22, 1949, in Russellville, Alabama, to Walter and Celestine Entrekin, Jan grew up in Michigan before returning to her roots in Russellville after completing her nursing education in 1982.
A dedicated Registered Nurse, Jan spent her career caring for others at several hospitals in North Alabama, with her longest tenure at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama. Her compassion and commitment to her profession were evident in every aspect of her work.
A faithful member of the North Highlands Church of Christ, Jan’s life was a testament to her faith and love for her community. Her passions included watching Alabama Football — always cheering “Roll Tide” — and crocheting, which she did with skill and love.
Above all, Jan was a devoted family woman, immensely loving her family and grandchildren, Levi and Jude. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved cat Socks.
Jan leaves behind her father, Walter Entrekin; her daughter, Andrea Johnson and her husband Ron, and their children Levi and Jude; her son, AJ Smith; and her Aunt Shelly. She joins in death her mother, Celestine Entrekin, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many other beloved family members.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 22nd, with a celebration of life to follow at 11:00 AM at the North Highlands Church of Christ. The service will be officiated by Phillip Goad, and Jan will be laid to rest at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the ICU staff at North Alabama Medical Center for their exceptional care and support during Jan’s final days. Special thanks are also extended to the staff at Pinkard Funeral Homes, particularly Tammy, for their assistance and compassion.
Jan’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
