Mrs. Jane Newton Cook, 86, passed away at her home in Bluffton, South Carolina on December 23, 2024. A service will be held at Grace Bible Church in Florence, AL on Saturday, January 4, 2024 at 11am. The graveside portion of the service will be held at the Tri-Cities Mausoleum beginning at 1pm.
Mrs. Cook was born to the late William Thomas Newton and Eula Weathers Newton of Lawrenceburg, TN on June 4, 1938. She attended Lawrence County High School where she was elected Football Queen and graduated as salutatorian in 1956. She then went on to graduate from Florence State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960.
Jane was an avid piano player. She played the piano and organ for the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceburg, TN as a high school and college student.
Mrs. Cook was married to her late husband, Jerome “Jerry” Allen Cook, on December 20, 1959.
After her retirement from 21 years of federal service in 1999; Mrs. Cook moved to St. George Island, Florida and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. The St. George Island Civic Club honored her with the Outstanding Citizen Award in 2005.
Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her husband, Jerome “Jerry” Allen Cook; parents, William Thomas Newton and Eula Weathers Newton; and a brother, William “Tommy” Thomas Newton, Jr. She is survived by her children, Jerome “Jerry” Allen Cook, Jr.(Bluffton, SC) and John Thomas Cook (Apex, NC); grandchildren, Jerome “Jerry” Allen Cook III (Rocky Hill, Connecticut), and Clarice Marie Cook (Cary, NC); and great-grandchildren, Devin Cook, Chloe Cook.
