Jane Jeffrey – Obituary

Jane Jeffrey, 89, passed away at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis after a brief illness. She was born in Tupelo on October 12, 1927, the daughter of Timothy and Ola Mae Harmon Burroughs. After her high school graduation, Jane proudly served her country in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a cryptographer. She ended up in Memphis where she owned and operated a restaurant and catering business for many years. She also worked in retail sales, owning a gift shop for the last 15 years of her working career. Jane was prolific writer and captivating public speaker. Always cooking and entertaining, she was the picture of Southern charm and sophistication.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall officiating. Entombment will follow at Lee Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Jane leaves behind her sister, Betty Garrett (Jerry) of Jacksonville, Fl; her lifelong friend and caregiver, Betty Watson of Memphis; a nephew, Jerry Garrett (Debbie) of Byhalia; 3 grand-nephews, Trey Garrett, Shane Garrett, and John Allen (Audrey); a cousin, Betty Jo Garner of Tupelo; and a host of extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tim and Ola Mae Harmon; a sister, Jessie Vaughn; two brothers, Billy Burroughs and George J. (G.J.) Burroughs.
