Jane Jarrard Hill, a native of Charleston SC, was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth and Wilson Jarrard of Charleston, South Carolina. She was a graduate of the College of Charleston with postgraduate work at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. After meeting in the church choir, she married Kenneth Allen Hill at the Summerall Chapel on the campus of The Citadel in 1956. They welcomed their first daughter Karen in1958 and moved to Huntsville in 1959. Two more daughters, Leesa and Alison would join them in 1960 and 1962.

She was a Special Education teacher at Whitesburg Elementary School for 17 years. After retirement, she volunteered for many years in several community organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Alpha Delta Kappa, a teacher’s honorary, and Fidelis Alpha, a teachers retirement group. She was an active member of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild for over 25 years, the Greenwich Garden Club, Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Hudson Alpha Foundation and the Advisory Board of Burritt Museum on the Mountain.

Jane expressed her love of music through various outlets. She played the organ and sang in the choir for several churches. She taught piano to local students as well as her own grandchildren. She delighted in sharing her bench with her babies as they made music together. She had an amazing talent and was gifted with the ability to play any song after hearing it once.

She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Taylor (Curtis) Leesa Stroud (William) and Alison Junen (Kendall); nine grandchildren, Matthew Taylor (Nicole), Lauren Bodenhamer, (Josh) Jonathan Taylor (Lauren), Will Stroud, (Brittiany) Taylor Stroud (Jessica), Kellie Garrett (Sean), Patrick Junen (Abby), Daniel Junen (Allison), and Rachel Junen; and 21 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and one sister, Elaine Starr of Greenville, SC.

A private family graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society or the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild.
