Jane Bremer PriceJane Bremer Price passed away peacefully into the care of the Lord on Wednesday, March 23rd. Born in St. Louis and raised in Hillsboro, Illinois, Jane was a lifelong Cardinals fan. A proud member of the Hillsboro Community High School Class of ’47, Jane traveled to Hillsboro for class reunions for our 50 years. She met her husband, Hugh Price when they both were attending the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. They loved their Fighting Illini as active alumni, attending football games and traveling with fellow alumni. Jane fought to get a college degree at a time when it was not considered necessary for young women. In many, and sometimes humorous ways, she battled her whole life for what is just and right. She never had a nice thing to say about most politicians, but was a proud, active voter her entire life, even when physical challenges made it difficult. However, she would tell anyone that would listen that she did NOT vote for either presidential candidate in 2020!

Settling in Elmhurst, Illinois, Hugh and Jane raised their family of three. In later life, they relocated to Hendersonville, North Carolina where they enjoyed golf, bridge, and traveling to see family and new places. Jane lived in Madison, Alabama since 2019, to be nearer her daughter, Kathy. Known for her perseverance (and stubbornness), Jane was kind, generous, highly-intelligent, strong, loved a good laugh, and was never afraid to speak up or lend a hand. She is survived by sons Douglas Price, Stephen (Linda) Price, daughter Kathy (Steve) Gilder, and granddaughters Stacy and Ashley Price. She also loved Sasha Joy who would be the highlight of regular visits to the assisted living and nursing homes where she resided. Jane was preceded in death by her husband (Hugh Price), father (Jesse Bremer), mother (Eunice Bremer), brother (John Bremer), and sister (Diane Haskell). She also loved Hugh’s sisters (Helen, Betsy and Shirley) and their husbands who all passed before her. But oh, what a time they had together in life along with many good friends in the Elmhurst area.

The family is so grateful for the love and support of the Caring Strategies and Hospice Family Care staffs, for helping us navigate the last weeks of our mother’s life. The Huntsville Hospital Caring House team and Monique Whitaker were truly answers to our prayers. A gathering will be held at the home of Steve and Kathy Gilder on the afternoon of Sunday, March 27th in celebration of Jane’s long life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Huntsville Hospital Foundation (www.huntsvillehospitalfoundation.org ) , designated to Hospice Family Care, at 801 Clinton Avenue East, Huntsville, AL 35801 or the Huntsville Botanical Garden through their website, www.hsvbg.org.
