Jane Bost HarringtonJane Bost Harrington, of Huntsville, passed away on August 4, 2020. She was 97 years old. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Jackson Harrington and her sister, Lorraine Bost Burnett.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Harrington Franklin (Bobby Franklin); son, Hub Bost Harrington (Kathryn Sumrall Harrington); grandchildren, Ryan Lee Shaw (Melissa Watson Shaw) and Michael Harrington; and great-grandchildren, Carson and Addison Shaw.

Jane was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 21, 1923. She graduated from Byrd High School and attended Centenary College. At the start of World War II, Jane left college to become a communications stenographer, working at Barksdale Field near Shreveport. There she met “Chuck” Harrington, a young lieutenant, who had recently returned to the US after serving in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Jane and Chuck were married on July 18, 1943. Very shortly thereafter, Chuck was sent to serve in the war in Africa and Italy. They were not reunited until the war ended in 1945. During Chuck’s years of military service, Jane set up households in Japan and many areas around the United States. While in Japan, Jane embraced the Japanese culture and learned to speak Japanese. In 1957, Jane and Chuck settled in Huntsville, where they remained for the rest of their 50 years of married life and where Jane continued to reside after Chuck’s death in 1993. During her long life in Huntsville, Jane was active in many community endeavors. She was a kindergarten teacher, avid square dance club member and an accomplished and fierce bridge player. She was a devoted and very active member of the First Baptist Church of Huntsville for over 60 years.

Jane will be laid to rest beside her beloved Chuck with a graveside service Friday, Aug. 7th, at 2:30 p.m. at Huntsville Memory Gardens. They will be forever united in Heaven.
