Jane Annette Whitlock, 87, Antioch, Tenn., formerly of Colbert County, Ala., died Sunday, April 21, 2013. She was born May 13, 1925, the daughter of Oce Eugene and Annie Clara (Notgrass) Smithson.
She attended schools in Colbert County, graduating from Deshler High School, Tuscumbia, Ala., in 1941.
She married William Pride Stanley in 1941. They divorced in 1945. In 1951, she married Walt Lawrence Jr. He died in 1967. She married Paul Whitlock in 1980. He died Nov. 6, 1999.
She earned her R.N. Degree from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Birmingham, Ala., and her Masters of Nursing at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Ala.
Annette loved being a nurse and had a long and successful career in nursing, first working as an R.N. in a clinic, then a hospital and for many years as an anesthesiologist. Later, she taught others about nursing at NW Alabama Jr. College and at Muscle Shoals Community College. Then the last several years before she retired, she was Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Ala.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time at her vacation home in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1944; her mother in 2002; and her brother, Ewell W. Smithson, in 2012; great-grandson, Lucas Duncan; and her husbands, Walt Lawrence and Paul Whitlock.
She is survived by three daughters, Jane Stanley Head and husband, James, of Liberal, Kan., Nancy Stanley Hamilton and husband, Johnny, Russellville, Ala., Carole Lawrence Burkitt and husband, Hunter, Antioch, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Donna (Gil) Cleveland, Tuscumbia, Ala.; six grandchildren, Jimmy (Emily) Head, Jon (Gina) Head, Jeffery (Julee) Head, Jennifer (Scott) Grubbs, Gayla (Stuart) Mills, and Christy (Mike) Duncan; nine great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Auston, John T., Devon, Savannah, Adrian, James, Ellen and Harper; and one great-great- granddaughter, Dakota.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 26, 2013, 11 a.m., at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, Ala., with Clint Busler officiating. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Garden, Tuscumbia, Ala. The visitation will be Thursday, April 25, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association .
