James William Blackwood, 82, of Danville, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tom Campbell officiating at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Neel, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church.
Mr. Blackwood was born in Summertown, Tennessee on March 17, 1942 to James F. and Maude Freeman Blackwood.
He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He served his country as a United States Army Veteran and in the Army National Guard until he retired as Master Sergeant. He served his community as an EMT with the Danville Fire Department for many years; however, he was a Post Master by trade, until he also retired from the Danville Post Office.
He loved his Sunday drives and never met a stranger. He was truly loved and respected by all in the community. He had a passion for history and enjoyed spending time on his Arabian Horse Farm.
Mr. Blackwood was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His kindness and love will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. Although we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with his loved ones in the embrace of eternal peace.
Mr. Blackwood was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Shell Blackwood; two daughters, Donna Robinson and Alichia Blackwood; and a sister, Audrey Faye Blackwood.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sandra Hubbard and Robyn Young; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Ralph Blackwood (Janett), and Betty Johnson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Shelton Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
