James Wilburn Thomas age 89, of Union Grove passed away Sunday Sept. 25, 2022, at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville. Mr. Thomas was born on March 23, 1933, in Marshall County, AL the Son of Ollie and Made Stone Thomas. He graduated from Arab High School and then served in the US Army. He attended UNA and Alabama A & M receiving his MBA Degree. He coached football at Holly Pond High School for 17 years and taught there for 33 years. After his time in the Army he stayed in the reserve and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He loved his family and was an avid deer and turkey hunter. Survivors include his Wife of 49 years, Margie Thomas; Daughters: Linda Thomas Feres Ausfahl (Joe Ausfahl), and Edith West; Brothers: Rayburn Thomas and Charles Thomas; Sister in law: Sherry Thomas; Grandchildren: Daniel Feres, Robert Dale Nappier and Meredith West Clark (Rocky Clark); Great Grandchildren: Triston (Denver) Clark, Lauren Clark, Laken Clark, Jason (Ashley) Feres, Alannah Robertson, Cassidy Nappier and Maria Nappier; He was preceded in death by his Daughters: Kathy James and Melissa Thomas; a Grandson: Marty West; Son in law: Lonsie West and Brothers: Donald Thomas, Winston Thomas and Joe Thomas; Sisters: Earnestine King and Alene King.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wed. Sept. 28, 2022, at 2 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, with Gober Funeral Chapel directing. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice Family Care, 1000 Serenity Lane Huntsville, AL 35803.
