James Thomas “J.T.” Johnson, Sr, 89, of Cherokee, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024. Visitation will be Monday, March 4, from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. There will be a private graveside held for family at Mt. Hester Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
J.T. was a native of Cherokee and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired agricultural economist with TVA. J.T. loved farming, gardening, and playing the guitar and played in numerous gospel and country bands through the years. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
J.T. was preceded in death by his father, James Morris “Bud” Johnson; mother, Elsie Johnson; and brother, Billy Johnson.
He is survived by his children, Jimmy Johnson (Dale), Janet Johnson, Jeff Johnson (Anita), and Joni James (Dondi); sister-in-law, Brynda Johnson; grandchildren, Devin Johnson, Mallory Angel (Logan), Daniel Johnson, Kaydee Johnson (Jay Lim), Jake Thomas James, and Seth James; great-grandchildren, Landon Johnson and Liam Angel; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Devin Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Jake Thomas James, Seth James, Logan Angel, and Jay Lim.
