James Thomas Abbott James Thomas Abbott of Hanson, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2023. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death.

James Thomas was born on February 11, 1950, in Jasper, Alabama. James Thomas, affectionately known as “TJ” or “JT” by friends and family, left a beacon of light for all.

James is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Richardson Abbott; his daughter Janet Lynn Abbott Brooks (Roger); and his son Ryan Abbott. James was a doting and loving grandfather and great grandfather. His legacy will continue to live on in his grandchildren: Courtney Densmore Grimmett (Drew), Zachary Abbott Edelen (Lindsey), Sydney Edelen (Connor), Kayley Edelen (Warren), Chandler Lawless (Jared) and Reed Brooks; along with 7 great grandchildren:  Maizey, Annaleigh, Haven, Izaiah, Brayden, Eli and James Christopher (JC).

He will also be forever loved and remembered by his siblings; Herman “HC” Abbott, Bill Abbott, Jerry Abbott, Roy Abbott, Vernon Abbott, Frank Abbott, Judy Abbott Keeton and Joyce Abbott O’Mary. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of special family and friends who loved him and will always remember his impact on their lives.

James Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Abbott and Esther Brown Abbott; siblings Sue Abbott, Loyce Abbott Berryhill and Henry Benjamen Abbott; and granddaughter Mallory Noelle Abbott.

James Thomas graduated from Curry High School in 1969. He was an outstanding football player during his tenure there.  He was an active member of the UMWA Union District 20, Local 1926 in Berry, Alabama for several decades before moving to Hanson, Kentucky. James was a huge fan of the University of Alabama.  James was an avid racing, muscle car and motorcycle enthusiast, gaining him a racing family in his second hometown. A memorial service (to be announced) for his racing family and loving friends in Kentucky.  In addition to fully enjoying the life he built from hard work, James Thomas cared for others before himself.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.  at Collins Burke Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery. Wayne Abbott will officiate.
