James Steward “Jim” Amacher, age 85 of Decherd, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at STRHS-Winchester. He was born in Franklin County on June 12, 1935 to the late Wesley Steward Amacher and Elsie Mae Hawkersmith Amacher. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army where he served for two years and the Tennessee National Guard for four years. He retired from L & N Railroad where he worked as an agent for over twenty years. Jim was a well known numismatist and stamp collector. He enjoyed attending special events at the VFW and Senior Citizens Center which included singing karaoke and dancing. In his spare time you could find him watching football on TV. A handsome, very honest, intelligent man who’s love for his family will be remembered for years to come. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi Elizabeth Gipson Amacher; siblings, Deborah Williams and Robert “Bobby” Amacher; and grandchildren, Tory, Cory and Dorian Davis. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ruth Amacher of Decherd; daughter, Lisa Michele (Wayne) Davis of Ormond Beach, FL; grandson, Alexander Wayne (Abby) Davis of Manchester; stepchildren, Glenda Ruth Bates of Tullahoma, Steven (Mary) Bates of Oklahoma, Marion Clay (Robin) Bates of Columbia, Jason David (Katie) Duggin of Calhoun, GA; several step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandra (James) Nunley of Winchester and Nina (Marvin) Babin of Rogersville, AL; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Saturday and 12-2 pm Sunday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro.
