James “Sonny” Hill, 78, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at NMMC-Tupelo, MS. He was born November 19, 1945, in Shannon, MS to Charlie Wayne and Ruth Hester Hill. Sonny is the widower of Lucy Mask Hill after 36 years of marriage. On June 18, 2005, he married Diane Millwood Hill. Sonny worked in the garment and furniture industries. He loved spending time with his granddaughters and enjoyed cooking, working in flowers, gardening, and raising farm animals. He attended churches of the Pentecostal faith over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Hill; son, Brian Hill (Candy) of Pontotoc; 3 granddaughters, Callie Randolph (Donavan), Jala Hill, and Adalyn Hill all of Pontotoc; sister, Mary Monaghan (Dave) of Plantersville; aunt, Shirley McDaniel of Tupelo; sister-in-law, Brenda Hill; a host of nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and a brother, David Hill.
Services will be Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 2PM at Pontotoc Apostolic Church with Bro. Bennie Randolph officiating and Bro. Matt Bennett giving the eulogy. Visitation will be Saturday, May 25th 5-8PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc and Sunday, May 26th 1PM until service time at Pontotoc Apostolic Church. Burial will follow in Shannon Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Donavan Randolph, Jonathan Mask, Curtis Gordon, Will Bennett, Leo Mask, and Steve Morgan.
