James Russell Murphy was born on August 28, 1940 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the son of the late Douglas Leander and Catherine Franks Murphy.
On August 28, 1964, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Stricklin Murphy, who survives.
Russell worked at Clayton Homes for 24 years and Hardin County Solid Waste for 8 years. He attended Forest Ridge Union and Abrams Chapel. Russell enjoyed gardening, yard work, and mowing.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Stricklin Murphy of Savannah, Tennessee; sons, Doug Murphy (Tasha) of Savannah, Tennessee, Tony Murphy (Amber Massa) of Clifton, Tennessee, and Rusty Murphy of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tamara, Kyndall, Clayton, Hunter, Fisher, Tamia, James, Ryder, and Talia; and great grandchild, Ryleigh.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Stricklin.
