James Roy Loosier – Obituary

jamesFuneral services for James Roy Loosier, 69, of Town Creek will be today, June 2, 2016, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Town Creek, with the Reverend Rick Gilley officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery with Jackson Memory Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Loosier, who died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at his home, was born May 8, 1947 in Town Creek to Russell Loosier and Katie Lee Tidwell Loosier of Town Creek. He was a graduate of Hazlewood High School and Nashville Auto Diesel College. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Town Creek, where he served as Deacon for 43 years, taught Sunday school, and served in many other capacities until his health no longer let him. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 31 years of faithful service. He was co-owner of Loosier’s Mobil and Farm Equipment Service of Town Creek. Mr. Loosier was involved in his community and the schools of our county. He served 10 years on the Lawrence County School Board, and during his tenure, all high schools in Lawrence County became Southern Association Accredited. He served his community as a member of the Lions Club, Rescue Squad, Town Creek Masonic Hall 361, Industiral Development Board and Hazlelwood Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife and high school sweetheart, Laverne Hughes Loosier; two sons, Jerome Loosier (Gina) of Madison and Russ Loosier (Mechelle) of Rogersville; four grandchildren, Zoie Loosier, Ivie Loosier, Colin Loosier and Carson Loosier; two sisters, Vonda Burden (Jimmy) of Town Creek, Laura Brown of Muscle Shoals; sister-in-law, Lynne Loosier and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Burden Jr., Michael Burden, Brandon Brown, Jason Kimbrough, Eddie Johnson and Steve Grissom. Honorary pallbearers will be First Baptist Deacons, Chuck Booth, Coy Kerby, Roger Halbrooks, Robert Sheffield, David Spangler and Chip Henley and all the Henley’s Coffee Crew.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to First Baptist Church, 15770 Main Street, Town Creek, AL 35672.
