James Roy Hitt
February 2, 1938 ~ April 9, 2021 (age 83)

James will be remembered as very generous, kind, sacrificing and helpful. When he was around, no one went hungry or was left stranded, and he frequently helped those who were down on their luck. With James, no one was considered a stranger. He loved to strike up conversations and get to know people. He had an uncanny ability to remember significant dates. He also enjoyed fishing and NASCAR. With his passing, we’ve lost a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and a walking, talking family encyclopedia. He is loved dearly and will be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Mildred Irene Hitt and James Price Hitt, his first wife Eunice Jackson, and his second wife, Earline Reeves Hitt, stepsons Roger Godsey and Willie Lee, grandson Corey Jack Hitt, sister Wilma Jean Crook, and brother Eddie Hitt. He is survived by his wife Martha Teague Hitt, six sons, Phillip Hitt, James P. Hitt, Rick (Lucy) Hitt, Jack Hitt, Tony (Stacey) Hitt, Scott (Lynn) Hitt. He is blessed to have had stepchildren whom he loved as his own: Anne Harville, Tom (Cindy) Godsey, Juanita Smith, all of Michgan, Ricky (Lynn) Teague, Nicky (Dee) Teague, Janice (Jim) Grigsby, Angie Williams, Tammy (Steve) Parker, Patsy (Danny) Morgan, Micky Teague, all of Michigan and Alabama. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his remaining brother, Alvin Hitt (Nancy) of California.
