James Roy Byrd – Obituary

James Roy Byrd, 93 of Tuscumbia, died Friday, June 12, 2015. Visitation will be Monday, June 15, 2015 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Tom McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in Crooked Oak Cemetery.

Mr. Byrd was a Colbert County native, a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from TVA after 35 years of working as an Operating Engineer. He was also a hard working farmer and a great provider for his wife and family.

Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine Byrd; sister, Lennis McCollum and great granddaughter, Shana Schnell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Margaret Byrd; son, John Johnson; daughter, Judy Byrd; sister, Mattie Ruth Isbell; grandchildren, Suzanne Schnell, Melissa Satkamp, and Travis and Devan Johnson; 3 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clay Howard, Duck Grissom, Randy Fowler, Kenneth Hallmark, Anthony Hester and James M. Malone.

Honorary pallbearers are John and Josh Wadkins.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Evans.
