James Robert Thorne, 78, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Red Bay, AL to R.V. and Reba Strawbridge Thorn. He served as pastor for several churches in the area for forty years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Services will be Saturday, December 23, 11 a.m. at Golden Central Baptist Church with Bro. Dwight South officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Sue Thorne; son, James Michael Thorne (Leslie); daughter, Suzanne Rhodes (Greg); grandchildren, Charley Rhodes, Libby Thorne, Hailey Rhodes and Hudson Thorne; brother, Donald Thorn (Joyce) and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Yvonne Maupin and infants,Wanda Nell and Joanne Thorn.
Pallbearers will be Adam South, Chris Alexander, Bill Petree and Robert Deaton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charley Rhodes and Hudson Thorne.
Visitation will be Friday, December 22, 5-8 p.m. at Golden Central Baptist Church.
