James Robert Plaxico was born on December 24, 1944 in Corinth, MS the son of the late Jim and Ruby Carter Plaxico and he departed this life on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at his home in Selmer, TN at the age of 78 years old.
He graduated from Belden High School in 1964. And, he was united in marriage to Shirley Smith on March 30, 1985.
In recent years, James worked in the cutting department at Benchcraft and Corinthian. Then, after retiring he worked as a security guard at Magnolia Regional Health Center, and as a security guard at the Corinth Welcome Center.
James loved spending time with his family, playing basketball and softball, and watching his favorite sports teams. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Michie, TN.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Plaxico, sister Dorothy Wood, sister Doris Holcomb, daughter Wendy Hurley and husband Wally, daughter Jamie Dooley and fiancé Jay Herron, son Bobby Plaxico and wife Dina, son Doug Knight and wife Beverly, and son Tony Knight. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Kristi Heim and husband Austin, Lee Dooley and wife Brooke, Jacob Dooley, Jordan Hedges and husband William, and Lora Brown and husband Brandon, along with 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for James Plaxico will be held on Wednesday, April 12, at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Michie TN under the care of Shackelford Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 11, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Michie
Pallbearers will be nephews Randy Wood, Tim Wood, Alan Wood, Jerry Rogers, and grandsons Lee Dooley and Jacob Dooley
