On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, James Randle McCord of Piedmont, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. Randle was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was seventy-seven years old. Randle was a Cherokee County native born August 9, 1946, and a graduate of Cherokee County High School, class of 1964. He retired from Goodyear in Gadsden, Alabama.
Randle is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janis Gowens McCord, his son and daughter in law, Kevin and Pam McCord (Piedmont, AL), grandchildren; Erin and Bryson Giddy (Rock Springs, GA), Cale and Kaylee McCord (Piedmont, AL), Cass and Emily McCord (Tuscaloosa, AL), Raechelle and Tyler Lowe (Gadsden, AL), great grandson’s; Zane, Zephan, Zander & Zeke Lowe and Parker McCord. Randle was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his newest great grandchild, his first great granddaughter, Amelia McCord who is due this month, his sister Ann (Jimmy) Ferguson (Centre, AL) and sister-in-law Phyllis (Rodney) Ragsdale (Piedmont, AL) and his beloved nieces and nephews.
Randle was best known for his laid-back personality. He loved playing golf with his friends, was a big Alabama fan, loved the Atlanta Braves and the Piedmont Bulldogs. His favorite pastime included sitting outside on the screened porch with his wife and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Randle was preceded in death by daughters, Cassie Leigh McCord and Dana Lynette McCord, his parents, Orvle McCord and Lula Samples McCord, and one sister, Helen McCord Burk.
Per his wishes, there will be a graveside service for Randle on August 8, 2024, at Piedmont Memory Gardens at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who choose to can instead make a donation to American Cancer Society Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge in Birmingham, Alabama @ 1104 Ireland Way, Birmingham, Alabama 35205, or online at raiseyourway.donordrive.com, in his memory.
