James R. Wright Jr., of Elkmont, died Sunday, February 10, 2019, at his residence.
Mr. Wright was born September 6, 1940, in Rochester, Pennsylvania. He was retired from Zircoa Chemical. Mr. Wright was a member of the Greater Cleveland Slo-Pitch Hall of Fame.
He played, coached, umpired, managed players and team schedules and kept all the statistics for adult softball leagues throughout his lifetime. As a child growing up, Jim loved baseball. He played in the Little League then American Legion, and finally the Cleveland, Ohio, slo-pitch softball league.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Clint Coffey officiating. Burial in Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tom Wright, Robert Scott, Michael Senyeri, David Johnston, Steven Johnston, Joey Isaman and Bubba Rothacker.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Nella Wright of Elkmont; sons, James R. Wright III of Castlerock, Colorado, and Robert J. Wright of Garrettsville, Ohio; daughters, LaVonne Wright Hays of Hartsville, Ohio, Beth Ann Wright of Newton Falls, Ohio, Catie Patteson of Atwater, Ohio, and Christine Murphy of Jacksonville, Florida; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Wright and wife Ann of Paradise, California, and Tom Wright and wife Laurie of Elkmont, Alabama; and sister, Sue Desanzo of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
Preceded in death by brother, Bill Wright; sister, Pat Secrest; and stepson, Johnny Murphy.
