James Phillip Montgomery Profile Photo James Phillip Montgomery was born on June 4, 1945 in Mingo County in Belo, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Helen Montgomery.  He was united in marriage to Barbara English Melson Montgomery on November 21, 2005.  He served his country in the United States Air Force, then went to college at University Tennessee Knoxville and then started his career as an engineer working for several companies through the years.  James was an avid golfer with several hole’s-n-one, even winning a new vehicle on one of them.  James loved to read and always had a book close by him.  He always was ready to help others that needed help.  James loved to travel until his health declined.

James Phillip Montgomery departed this life on May 28, 2024 at his home in Savannah, Tennessee with his wife beside him at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 24 days.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Montgomery; brothers, George (Sandra), Gary (Linda), and Dennis Montgomery; sister, JoNell (Glen); grandchildren, Savannah Melson Tomerlin (Justin) and Johnathon Melson; great grandchildren, Jayden, Kinsley, and Jameson Tomerlin; and the kids “from across the street” that always called him Granddaddy, Pryia and Ura Patel; and his most precious fur baby, Tennie Tot aka TT that stayed right on the bed with her granddaddy to protect him these 2 years and 3 months.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robin Montgomery; his step son, John Anthony Melson; and his fur babies, Buddy Ray, Dixie Nicole, and Fatty Patty.

No visitation and services to be announced.  James donated his body to science.

The family would like to thank all of Legacy Hospice for the care they provided. For over 2 years, Lexi Hayes, RN, Tiffany Bonee White, RN, Rhonda Smith, RN, Brenda Mast, RN, Destiny Waterman, CNA, and Kayla Bancroft, CNA, took great care of James.  He loved these girls as family.
